We have many employees in our practice who have been tricked by the marketing gurus in “ergonomic seating”. The use of high back chairs and chairs with head rests are NOT ergonomic and in fact can result in increased loads through the discs and facet joints of the neck (C Spine). To counter this posture which results from incorrect heights of seating at the neck and head the muscles called the paraspinal muscles must exert a counterforce in an effort to keep the head and neck in a supported posture.
