Jane Sleeth‘s insight:

In the field work and qualitative research conducted by the ergonomic consultants with Optimal Performance (US and Canada) we are finding that with the ageing process there are more complaints of lower back pain. When people sit even in good chairs they are still inclined to sit in a forward flexed and non-supported posture. This loads the discs of the lumbar spine and stretches the ligaments supporting the back of the spine. Encouraging people to use the chairs they have by leaning into the back and allowing for less flexed postures is one of a few behavioural requirements we ask of employees.  This paper in PubMed provides further insite as to why this is critical to have employees do when seated.  OPC Inc
